Abstract
The aim of this review was to present the evidence of the role of the measurement of bronchial hyperresponsiveness in monitoring of asthma. Airway hyperresponsiveness can be assessed during regular clinic visit and it is related to the severity of asthma and airway inflammation. The indirect markers of airway hyperresponsiveness, such as AMP or hypertonic saline may more accurately reflect airway inflammation and remodelling than routine symptoms and lung function monitoring. Monitoring of patients with asthma is a key aspect of optimal asthma management and the measurement of airway hyperresponsiveness may improve asthma control.
