Abstract

A description of the U.S. Current Population Survey is presented. The author notes that this survey which was started in 1940 is probably the oldest continuous monthly sample survey of households in the world. The focus of the article is on developments since 1959 when the survey became the responsibility of the Bureau of Labor Statistics. (ANNOTATION)
