Abstract
To study the expression of matrixmetalloproteinase (MMP)-2 and -9 and its significance in benign breast disease and breast carcinoma. Methods: Expression of MMP-2 and -9 was observed by SP immunohistochemical technique in 12 benign breast diseases and 32 breast carcinomas. Results: Expression of MMP-2 and -9 in breast cancer was much higher than that in benign breast disease (P<0.01). Compared with breast carcinomas without positive metastasis, expression of MMP-2 and -9 was upregulated in those with lymphnode metastasis (P<0.05). Conclusion: MMP-2 and -9 may play an important role in the invasion and metastasis of breast cancer.
