Aldonate forms a complex compound with molybdate and the degree of its optical rotation is increased. The optical rotatory dispersion of the complex compound was measured in the range of 340 to 700 mμ. It was found that the complex compounds of various aldonates all showed characteristic curves, with common maximum rotation at 345 mμ. The specific rotation at this wave length is reproducible under definite conditions and can be used for isomer analysis. Tne optical rotation or D-gluconate is [α]18589+12.7°, but in the presence of a molybdate, it increases to [α]18589+306.6° and [α]17345+2144°. This fact means that determination of D-gluconate by optical rotation can be further minimized.
