Abstract

In the past few years levels of exposure to environmental agents have lowered and people are often exposed to many different chemicals and mixtures. Therefore, it has become much more difficult to establish relationships between exposure and disease by traditional methods of epidemiology. Molecular epidemiology was developed to overcome the problem, and biochemical or biological markers were used to increase the power of environmental epidemiology. This paper summarizes the most important literature about applications of biological markers in epidemiology.
