Abstract

After you work as a project manager for a while, you will discover that there are some things you can do that will assist you in avoiding some of the common problems in managing information systems projects. Reviewing your project management books, journal articles, and discussions with other project managers will teach you about the different approaches to project management and how to deal with some of the issues in the profession. This chapter examines the importance of a collaborative work environment for reviewing and updating information technology standards and policies, the project plan, and how decisions made at the top level of the organization can impact project planning. It describes the importance of change control procedures; the three areas important to measuring project success and project outcomes; and the need for you to celebrate and communicate accomplishments. There are some web sites and other resources included for both business managers and project managers.
