Abstract
The purpose of the paper is to show the restrictive effect of the temporal quantity [Q] in Southern Bantu Languages which, with reference to its components, may also be described as 'syllable'. All sound changes occur within [Q] although there are harmonizing changes that echo the effects of [Q] inter-syllabically.
