Duloxetine and venlafaxine in the treatment of patients with major depressive disorder

Abstract
The authors of this study compared the outcomes for patients in two separate drug trials. Patients in one trial received either 60mg/day duloxetine or placebo (n=330), and in the other 150mg/day venlafaxine or placebo (n=337). In both trials the drugs were administered for six weeks at the same dose followed by an additional six weeks where the duloxetine could be increased to 120mg/day and the venlafaxine to 225mg/day.
