Abstract
Phenytoin, valproic acid, carbamazepine, phenobarbital, primidone, and ethosuximide are important in anticonvulsant therapy. Each drug's structure determines its properties and its activity against particular seizure types. Single-drug therapy is generally preferable to multiple-drug therapy. Absorption, half-life, metabolism, and other pharmacokinetic characteristics are important considerations in the selection of an anticonvulsant drug.
