Abstract
This paper sought to explore the reasons why older people in independent living units decide to enter the acute care system. Based on the findings, the recommendations provide ideas to ensure that older people do not enter acute care facilities until they need to, therefore assisting in the development of best-practice initiatives for older people living in this type of accommodation.
