Abstract
The research is intended to examine whether inhibition of return (IOR) is determined by both cueing and target processing or not. Experiments 1-5 find out that perception of a target is not inhibited but facilitated while the response is inhibited at the cued location. Experiments 4-5 show that IOR can be influenced by change of perceptual characteristics of the target. In all, IOR seems determined not only by cueing but also by target processing, so we suggest that there should be an inhibitory transition process from perceptual facilitation to response at the cued location, which is called transition hypothesis.
