Abstract

Molecules mediating cell-cell adhesion and cell-extracellular matrix adhesion are generally called adhesion molecules. Recent studies have identified numerous adhesion molecules and revealed that functional inhibition of these molecules in vivo leads to marked suppression of T cell responses as well as inflammatory responses. Here we review recent progress in the study of adhesion molecules and in experimental anti-adhesion therapies.
