Abstract

Annual groundwater level variation in the aquifer of the Mymensingh-Tangail area of Bangladesh was simulated by applying an implicit finite-difference model of groundwater flow. The groundwater level variation in the aquifer was investigated for time-varying withdrawal by pumping wells in the study area for the period 1979-'80 and 1982-'83. The recharge to the aquifer was determined by the calibration process. Total recharge in the model area was found to be less than the total actual withdrawal in 1982-'83. The groundwater levels during 1982-'83 were found to decrease from the groundwater levels during 1979-'80. This was due to the higher withdrawal volume of 1405.7 million m 3 in 1982-'83 than that of 575 million m 3 in 1979-'80.
