[After five years of legal abortion].

Abstract

A review of abortion trends in Italy since the legalization of abortion in 1978 is presented. The data are from a variety of published sources. The author concludes that Italy is a country with high abortion rates and that the legislation of 1978 has tended to consolidate and expand induced abortion rather than to prevent and reduce it. The need for a vigorous pro-life campaign to counteract this trend is proposed.
