Abstract

High purity (Al-b/Al-T > 90%, Al-13 approximate to 70%) and high coneentration (Al-T > 2.0 mol (.) L-1) polyaluminum chloride (PAC) solution was obtained through membrane distillation followed conventional PAC (0.2 mol (.) L-1) synthesis by quick base injection. Final Al-I/Al-T and Al-T are strongly influenced by pH value and c(OH)(-)/c(Al)(3+) ratio (B) of the initial synthesized PAC solution and its feeding temperature in MD process. pH value of L-PAC between 5.0 +/- 0.2, the percentage of Al-B in L-PAC above 70% and the feeding solution temperature below 70 degrees C are three key factors to obtain high Al-B and high Al-T PAC. The results indicate that Al-B can exist in high coneentration PAC solution, and the percentage of Al-b maintains above 70% for a long time at low temperature.
