Uterine Perforation of Pyometra Presenting as Gastrointestinal Perforation: A Case Report

Abstract

Gastrointestinal perforation is a common acute abdomen. Spontaneous perforated pyometra is a rare condition with free intra-peritoneal air. The clinical findings of perforated pyometra are sim- ilar to perforation of the gastrointestinal tract and other causes of acute abdomen. Mortality from spontaneous perforated pyometra exceeds 40%. Therefore, Spontaneous rupture of pyometra in cases of acute abdomen in elderly female patients should be considered.
