Abstract

The role of sodium imbalance in producing abnormalities in plasma osmolality is pivotal in terms of clinical realities. Indeed, the only condition commonly characterized by hypo-osmolality is hyponatremia. Although the causes of hyperosmolality are more diverse, hypernatremia remains by far the most significant and most common etiology.
