Abstract

On Sunday 26 December 2015, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong officially opened stage 2 of the Downtown Line of the Singapore Metro. The Downtown Line is the fifth line of the Singapore Metro network. Built in different phases, the first phase of the line was inaugurated in December 2013. It is now 13-mi long and includes 18 stations. The third phase, which is currently under construction, will add 13 mi and 16 stations. The Downtown Metro Line-which will be the longest driverless underground line in Singapore-is expected to carry up to a half-million passengers per day.
