Abstract

Paradoxical embolism through persistent foramen ovale is one of the mechanisms of cardiogenic cerebral embolism. Transesophageal and transthoracic echocardiography and transcranial Doppler ultrasound (TCD) allow to assess the connection between ischaemic stroke, and to indicate specific treatment.
