A review was given on the classification and cause of commonly observed defects for ceramic coatings. The fundamental principles of several important methods for the nondestructive test of the ceramic coatings and the current state of the research on the nondestructive test of the ceramic coatings were introduced. It was pointed out that the hidden security troubles arisen in the destructive test could be avoided by making use of the nondestructive test. Thus the nondestructive test could be worth being popularized in the test and measure of the ceramic coatings.
