Study on Relations of Suicidal Ideation and Life Attitude of Lower Grade Undergraduate Students

OBJECTIVE To study tendency of suicidal ideation and life-attitude of lower grade undergraduate students and improve them to respect life and provide instructions of promoting their mental quality and preventing the occurrence of mental crisis.METHODS Re-searchers surveyed 724 first and second grade students in medical and technological university by the questionnaire.RESULTS Preva-lence of suicidal ideation was 36.8%of female students and 23.6%of male students,the difference between the two group was signifi-cant($2=15.21,P0.001);65.1%of students with suicidal ideation reported that life was valued,compared with 75.1%of students without it($2=7.56,P0.01);9.3%of students with suicidal ideation who often thought suicide facing to frustration were significantly higher than 2.6%of students without it($2=15.64,P0.001);51.6%of students without suicidal ideation reported that anything but life could be given up compared with 36.1%of the other group($2=15.64,P0.001);More students with suicidal ideation felt that mind would to breakdown facing to events compared with students without it($2=34.48,P0.001).CONCLUSIONS Prevalence of sui-cidal ideation among lower grade students was higher in female;Students with suicidal ideation took negative attitude to life.So crisis intervention should be taken among undergraduate students with suicidal ideation in order to effectively avoid crisis development.
