Abstract

Evaluation of the compost maturity is important for both composting and compost. The parameters for compost maturity are grouped into three types: physical, chemical and biological indices. There is no unanimous parameter to evaluate compost maturity till now. In this paper, the characteristics and shortcomings of existing parameters are analyzed. The necessity and feasibility to build a comprehensive assessment of compost maturity is discussed and the C/N, NH4+-N, SOUR are suggested indices for assessment.
