Abstract
2-Hydroxy-4'-chlorachalcone was synthesized from p-chloracetophenone and 2-hydroxy benzaldehyde in ethanol catalyzed by potassium hydroxide.Best results with 96.6% yield were obtained under conditions of molar ratio of p-chloracetophenone to 2-hydroxy benzaldehyde of 1 to 1.3,catalyst concentration of 20% and reaction time of 6 h.The product was confirmed with IR spectrum, melting point and elemental analysis.
