Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of weight, body mass index(BMI),waistline and waist-hip ratio(WHR) on bone mineral density(BMD) in postmenopausal women with type 2 diabetes. Methods BMD at various skeletal sites was measured by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry in 162 postmenopausal women with type 2 diabetes, and all women were divided into two groups(L-BMI group: BMI25 kg/m2,H-BMI group: BMI≥25 kg/m2) according to their BMI in different age(goup A:60year,groupB:≥60 year). Results The BMD at various sites in H-BMI group was higher than those in L-BMI group(P0.05 or P0.01).A negative correlation was found between age and BMD,while a positive correlation was found between weight and BMD.Conclusion Both weight and BMI are related to BMD,and weight is one of most important factors affecting BMD.
