Abstract
Objective: To explore the mediator effect of humor style on the relationship between shyness and loneliness in college students.Methods: A total of 525 college students(233 boys and 292 girls) from two Chinese universities completed a survey that included the Chinese humor style questionnaire,the Cheek and Buss Shyness Scale and the Emotional and Social Loneliness Scales.Results: ①Loneliness of college students had significant positive correlation with shyness,aggressive humor and self-defeating humor,and had significant negative correlation with affiliative humor and self-enhancing humor.Significant negative correlation was found between shyness and affiliative humor,self-enhancing humor.There was also a significant positive correlation between shyness and aggressive humor,self-defeating humor.②Shyness could not only predict loneliness directly,but also by the mediating role of affiliative humor and self-enhancing humor indirectly.Conclusion: Humor style could be a mediator on the relationship between shyness and loneliness of college students.
