Clinical characteristics of 41 cases with SARS and treatment of integrated TCM and WM

To observe the clinical characteristics of 41 cases with SARS and the effect of integrated TCM and WM treatment. The patients were differentiated according to the frequency of symptoms, signs, tough fur and pulse based on the western medical treatment of expectant treatment, antibiotic, anti_virus, hormone,oxygen inhalation and assisted respiration.Baihu Tang (White Tiger Decoction) Plus Cangzhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis) or modified San Ren Tang (Decoction of Three Kinds of Seed) was given at the early and middle stages and modified Qingshu Yiqi Tang (Decoction for Clearing Away Summer_Heat and Benefiting Energy) was given during the recovery stage. Among 41 cases, 39 cases were cured(95.10%),1 at recovery stage(2.44%) and 1 dead (2.44%).The improvement of the symptoms such as fever, short breath and the stuffy sensation in the chest for the patients being treated by integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine was more obvious than that of the patients being only treated by western medicine. The X_ray of the chest showed that the Chinese herbal treatment could help to absorb the infection and prevent the rebound phenomenon after the extenuation of the hormone.[Conclusion]The therapeutic effect of treating SARS by integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine is effective and worth researching further.
