Clinical Observations on the Treatment of Genual Osteoarthritis by Electroacupuncture and Moxibustion Plus Chinese Medicine

Abstract

Purpose To investigate the curative effect of combined acupuncture and Chinese medicine on genual osteoarthritis.Methods One hundred and thirty-eight patients were randomly divided into a treatment group of 85 cases treated by electroacupuncture and moxibustion plus Chinese medicine and a control group of 53 cases treated with oral Western medicine. The curative effects were evaluated and compared 1 month after 1 month's treatment.Results The total effective rate was 89.4% in the treatment group and 56.6% in the control group. There was a significant difference in curative effect between the two groups (P0.01).Conclusion Electroacupuncture and moxibustion plus Chinese medicine have a marked and exact effect on genual osteoarthritis.
