Abstract
OBJECTIVE To observe the efficacy of thymosinα1 combined with antibiotics on drug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa pneumonia in older patients.METHODS The forty five older patients with drug-resistant P.aeruginosa pneumonia were randomly assigned to receive thymosinα1 combined with antibiotics therapy(treatment group,n=22) or merely conventional antibiotics therapy(control group,n=23).The changes of clinical symptom, results in culture of sputum,C-reactive protein, and T cell subset before and after the treatment were observed.RESULTS Percentages of CD_4+,and ratio of CD_4+ to CD_8+ increased significantly and percentages of CD_8+ reduced significantly in treatment group seven days after treatment,as compared to those before treatment [(32.13±3.02)% vs.(39.56±4.15)%,(1.19±0.38)% vs.(1.78±0.47)%,respectively,P0.001,and(27.75±2.38)% vs.(22.46±2.66)%,P0.01].But,no significant improvements in those indicators were found in control group after treatment,There were significant differences in percentages of CD_4+,CD_8+,and ratio of CD_4+ to CD_8+ between two groups after treatment.Serum concentration of C-reactive protein reduced in both groups after treatment,as compared to that before treatment, but reduced more significantly in treatment group than that in control group [(19.34±10.54)mg/L vs.(5.18±2.50)mg/L,(18.91±10.13)mg/L vs.(9.63±6.81)mg/L,respectively,P0.01].The efficacy rates,drug-resistant P.aeruginosa clearance rates improved significantly in treatment group than that in control group(81.82% vs.52.17%),(81.82% vs.56.52%) respectively,P0.05.CONCLUSION Thymosinα1 can improve immunological function, and increase the efficacy of antimicrobial treatment on drug-resistant P.aeruginosa pneumonia in the older patients.
