Abstract

Objective:To observe the change of female hormones , the condition of shrinking and reverse growth of uterine leiomyoma after treat ing with mifepristone.Methods:80 patients with leiomyoma were di vided into two groups. The study group(the mifepristone group)was treated by mif epristone 12.5 mg/d p.o, and the compare group (the GnRHa group) was treated by injection of GnRHa 150 μg/d subcutaneously, the two drugs were used every 3 mon ths for 2 cycles. Female hormones, the condition of shrinking and reverse growth of uterine leiomyoma were detected. Results:Hormones decreased i n the two groups, and progesterone in study group decreased significantly, howev er estrogen didn't change obviously. The volume of leiomyoma reduced respectivel y in both groups. After two cycles treatment, the volume of leiomyoma reduced 25 % or more in 87.5 %(35/40) and reduced 50 % or more in 47.5 %(19/40) in mifepri stone group. The volume of leiomyoma reduced 25 % or more in 88.9 %(32/36) and r educed 50 % or more in 47.2 %(17/36) in GnRHa group. There was no significant di fference in the two groups. After one year follow-up, the volume of leiomyoma i ncreased less than 25 % in 52.9 %(18/34) in mifepristone group, and that less th an 25 % in 30.3 %(10/33) in GnRHa group. The difference was significant. Conclusion:To treat uterine leiomyoma, mifepristone possesses th e advantages of mild change of female hormones, significant shrinking leiomyoma and little reverse growth of uterine leiomyoma.
