A Study on the Development of Qinqiang Opera in Urumqi in the Period of Republic of China

Abstract

Qinqiang Opera is one of the operas that have boasted the longest history in Xinjiang and was known as one of three major operas(the other two are Hebei Bangzi Opera and Beijing Opera) before 1949.Since its introduction into Dihua(now called Urumqi),Qinqiang Opera has won a great popularity among the people of different social classes,and has experienced great development.Qinqiang Opera went through the following stages in Dihua in the period of Republic of China.After the setting up of Sanhe Troupe,Qinqiang Opera began to grow.Later,Xinzhong Stage Company was established,Qinqiang Opera got to flourish in Urumqi.After the War of Resistance Against Japan,Qinqiang reached its zenith in Urumqi and then gradually declined.
