Abstract
In recent years, creative industries are developing as a new economic form with their increasingly significance on cities and regions and becoming one of the key agents of reconstruction of post-industrialized urban geographical landscape. In China, previous work on creative industry was mainly focused on the importance to develop cities but little on creative industry agglomeration areas. Through a case study of Nanjing, this article attempts to make some contributions in these areas. It examines the spatial distribution of 35 creative industry agglomeration areas and suggests that there are three development models of creative industry agglomeration area, and they are model that is based on reconstruction of historical industrialized space, model that relies on innovative institutes and model that is dependent on natural and human landscape. The Creative Industry Agglomeration Areas development not only restructure the urban space of Nanjing, but also play an important role in the urban spatial development through creating urban landscape, reviving historical surrounding and replacing the industrialized space.
