Abstract
A novel solid acid was prepared from concentrated sulphuric, boric and phosphorous acid by a simple method and characterized by FTIR, and XRD. The results show that the solid acid is an effective catalyst for the esterification and that the catalyst can be recycled by distillation of the reaction mixture. The effect of the reaction conditions on the esterification of acetic acid with ethanol was investigated.
