Criticism and Reconstruction——Reflections on the 1990’s Feminist Literary Criticism

Contemporary Chinese feminist literary criticism based its development on directly transplanting Western feminism in Chinese soil. However, Chinese critics didn’t “take” and swallow down theoretical framework, ideological resources and patterns of discourse from their Wetern counterparts without choice, but made discriminative analyses according to their native experience before they accepted them alternatively. Although it is characteristic of distinctive Western post-modernism, contemporary Chinese feminist literary criticism has developed its thickly native concern and thinking mode. With its feet firmly planted in experience of its native history and culture and context, it examines and criticizes the established cultural order of gender with regard to Chinese literature and culture. Therefore, it is safe to say that Western feminist criticism has effectively been transplanted in the discourse system of contemporary Chinese literary criticism as a new critic approach and trend.
