Abstract

Objective To investigate the changes of basal membrane thickness in ethmoid mucosa in chronic rhinosinusitis.Method Using HE staining to study basal membrane thickness in 10 cases of control group,35 cases of CRSsNP,40 cases of CRSwNP and 12 cases of recurrent CRS.Results The mean basal membrane thickness were(7.8±1.3)μm,(25.4±4.3)μm,(34.7±5.1)μm and(36.2±6.3)μm in control group,CRSsNP group,CRSwNP group and recurrent CRS group,respectively.Comparing with control group,the mean basal membrane thickness in CRS group and recurrent CRS group showed statistically significant difference(P0.05).Conclusion Basal membrane is more thicker in CRS and recurrent CRS than in control group.Increased basal membrane thickness plays an important role in pathogenesis of CRS.
