Abstract

In recent years, the dramatic increase of urban construction land during the rapid urbanization process of China has become one of the hottest academic focuses. This paper deals with the relationship between urban population growth and urban land expansion based on allometric growth model. The results indicate that, from 1996 to 2004,the average scale of urban land use in China is still at a reasonable level, but the relative urbanization speed of land use is getting faster, the tendency of positive allometric growth become stronger. Moreover, there are widely discrepant features of urban land use between different urban scales, urban functions and different regions. Small cities and industrial cites have the highest average scale of industry land, megacities、comprehensive cities and eastern cities of China have the fastest urban expansion speed and already beyond the proper threshold values, which need different policies to control.
