Abstract

This paper expounds the history of that the western library concept was introduced into China, analyzes the influence of the western missionaries on the generation of Chinese modern library, and points out that the libraries which the western missionaries founded in China have brought the theory of the western library, the library's management and technical methods into China, have broken through the pure collection nature of the library, have contributed to the modernization of Chinese library objectively, and have promoted the transformation of Chinese ancient collection building into the modern library.
