Abstract
The emerging H.264/AVC video coding standard is developed collaboratively by the ITUT and ISO/IEC.Its designation of entropy coding adopts Contextbased Adaptive Binary Arithmetic Coding(CABAC). CABAC is a highly efficient entropy coding, which utilizes context modeling to reduce the redundancy between symbols. CABAC can adapt itself to the statistics of video stream, and gains highly efficient of coding. This paper deeply studies binarization, context modeling and adaptive binary arithmetic coder of CABAC, and the corresponding experiment has been performed. The experiment indicates that CABAC saves 6%~15% bit rate than Context Adaptive Variable Length Coding(CAVLC) with the same quality of image.
