Abstract
Objective: To study the chromosome number and karyotype of Lactuca indica L. for picked seed breeding of Lactuca indica L. and plant classification on the basis of cytology. Methods: The slice made by freeze-peeling method was observed and photoed under the light microscope. The karyotype was analyzed by the chromosome classification criterion of LI Mao-xue and CHEN Rui-yang, and classified by the method of Stebbins. Results: Chromosome number of Lactuca indica L. was 2 n=18, its karyotype fomula was K(2 n)=18=2 m+16 sm, and its karyotype belonged to 2B type. Conclusion: Lactuca indica L. is very advanced in the process of evolution.
