Analysis on Relative Trade Indexes between China and ASEAN

Abstract

It is undeniable that the future of ASEAN(Association of Southeast Asia Nations) depends much on the degree of economic integration between China and ASEAN. This paper attempts to use the trade intensity index, intra-industry trade index, BALASSA's revealed comparative advantage index and trade complementarity index to analyze the economic complementarity and comparatively competitive advantage between China and ASEAN. In view of the recent developments towards regionalism, it is imperative for the economies of ASEAN to form China-ASEAN free trade area.
