【Objective】To explore the cause of small bowel disease, the analysis of 49 cases of double-balloon enteroscopy (DBE) of the endoscopic characteristics and clinical analysis.【Methods】Retrospective analysis of our hospital 49 cases DBE examination and clinical data of 10 to 18-year-old patients from June 2005 to April 2009.【Results】DBE-positive rate of disease: 49 patients were successfully completed DBE, Twenty-seven of 49 patients was done by enteroscopy via anus, and 27 via oral, and 9 via both anus and oral. The lesions were found in 44 of the 49 patients (75.9%). 44 cases of lesions detected in the results of the small intestine: Ileal diverticulum were found in 14 cases (31.8%), Crohn's disease in 11 cases (25.0%), Ileum under paragraph vascular malformation in 6 cases (13.5%), Intestinal non-Hodgkin's lymphoma or stromal tumor in 2 cases (4.5%), and other enteral diseases in 9 cases. Endoscopy or surgical biopsy 37 cases, consistent with the final pathological diagnosis in 29 cases (78.4%), not in 8 cases (21.6%), Crohn's disease are all incompatible, the pathological results of chronic mucosal inflammation.【Conclusion】 DBE was a diagnostic modality with a high diagnostic value for small bowel diseases in teenagers. The most common causes of small bowel diseases were Ileal diverticulum and Crohn’s disease in teenagers.
