Conversation Analysis of the news interview

Abstract

This paper argues that news interview is quite different from everyday conversation.Applying the principles of conversation analysis,this paper analyzes the news interview data collected from the news programs in the US and Britain,and finds that in the news interview interviewer and interviewee are fundamentally constrained by the basic turn-taking pattern,i.e.Q-A format.By maintaining this format,the participants construct their interaction.
