Abstract

The design and measurements are described for the quadrupole doublet magnets with 600 mm apertures, which have cylindrical shape poles. Steel mirror end plates have been used for improving the end fringe fields, and correcting coils used for beam alignment. It is shown that the harmonic contents are very low in the central region of the magnets.Formulae of the effective quadrupole length have been obtained by considering the equivalence of transport matrices. In addition, the semiempirical dependence of effective length on radius, the interrelation of adjacent magnets and the corrective field configuration are given.
