Abstract

The field experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of irrigation amount on content of neutral aroma constituents in flue-cured tobacco in 2008.The results show that the relationship between micro-spraying amount and the contents of carotene catabolites, phenylalanine catabolites, carbohydrate and maillard reaction catabolites in different positions was significantly different. For lower leaves, aroma content increased with the increase of micro-spraying amount to a certain degree, then decreased when the irrigation amount surpassed 48 mm.The content of aromas constituents in mid leave had no significant differences among different irrigation amounts. For upper leaves, the irrigation amount of 48 mm and 72 mm had the highest aroma content;the traditional furrow irrigation with the irrigation amount of 120 mm had the lowest content of aroma compound. It is concluded that irrigation amount of 48~72 mm with micro-spraying is conducive to the formation of aroma constituents for all leaf positions. No irrigated tobacco had low level of aroma matter in bottom leaves, while irrigating too much by furrow irrigation would decrease aroma content in upper leaves.
