A Debate of the Relations between Zhang Zhidong and his “Westernized Chinese Style

The author probes and analyses the historical process of “westernized Chinese style thoughts' emergence, development and ultimate pattern. He points out that it is not personal originality but the result of modern thinkers' gradual exploration and the fruit of collective thoughts. The “westernized Chinese style thought is attributed to Zhang Zhidong, and becomes his substitute. It is not that people at his age misunderstood Liang Qichao, but that they satirized his “Westernized Chinese style thought inappropriate at that time. Although this very thought used to hinder the development of new-seeking law reform, its active role in the specific period should be confirmed.
