Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical effect of root-end filling with mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA).Methods Eighteen cases (twenty teeth) were carried out in endodontic surgery and root-end filling by MTA,which were chosen from the Chongqing Stomatological Hospital since October 2005 to September 2007 and had follow-up examination periodically.Meanwhile, the clinical effect was evaluated by radiography. Results The radiolucent regions of fifteen cases lessened or disappeared, and the cement-like substance was observed on the apical area in eight cases (nine teeth). Two cases remained the radiolucent region and one tooth was extracted as a failed case. Conclusion MTA has famous effects in apical sealing and bone regeneration. It is a good root-end filling material but the curative effect still needs long-term studies.
