Scholar and Intellectual——Concept of Eastern Culture Compare with Western Culture

The thesis discriminates intellectuals' identity character and disposition in western and eastern cultural contexts.Chinese intellectuals are moral bodies.On one hand,they were emperor's teachers in ancient China,propagating and protecting the Tao,on the other hard,they observed the feudal order of rank or seniority in human relationships,displayed immense dependence.Western intellectuals were the products of commodity economy and private ownership in the past.They kept independence thinking and critical spirit without compromise,showed solicitude for public matters.Modern Chinese intellectuals embrace western cultures,and still have traditional ideas.Conflict and merge of culture have formed the Chinese intellectuals' spirit.
