Abstract
Based on the ship motion of free roll decay in calm water, the purpose of present paper is to provide a method to estimate the roll damping ratio for three kinds of deep-V hulls including the bare hull, hull with bilge keel and hull with double chine lines. As the viscous effect is a notable factor in the roll motion, the proposed method should take the viscous damping components into account, which is combined with the energy method and RANSE simulation. The comparison analysis of free roll motion characteristics is carried out for three kinds of hull forms and the relationship of anti-roll design to the linear and nonlinear roll damping components is conducted.
