Abstract

MENG Hao-ran is a poet of lifetime civilian in Tang Dynasty.However,he yearned for being an official all his life.He felt agonized not being able to succeed in career.MENG Hao-ran,a typical reclusive poet in the eyes of following generations,in effect had been processed in a reclusive way which is expected by later generations.Although reclusion has certain positive significance,it is after all not a means of exploring,restricting and annihilating evils.In another sense,it is only an advanced skill of being on harmony with evil.Hence,the ups and downs of MENG Hao-ran's image has displayed that ancient literati lacked the courage of exploration and they just had the reclusive character of being self-content in soul.
