Abstract

The inhibition effect of benzotriazole (BTA) on A3 steel in sodium bicarbonate solution was studied by using the methods of weight loss, polarization curves, SEM and XRD which was used to analyze the composition of corrosion layer. Benzotriazole inhibited the corrosion of A3 steel in sodium bicarbonate solution. The data gained by experiment indicated that the complex films of Fe-BTA formed on the A3 steel decreased the corrosion through the inhibition of anodic reaction, preventing corrosive ion from adsorbing and reduces the corrosion rate. Corrosion rate was smaller when BTA acted on corrosion layer, we could include that corrosion layer can protect A3 steel from corrosion.
