Clinical significance and relationships between HIF-1α and PTEN expression in renal cell carcinoma

Objective:To explore the expression level and the interrelation between PTEN and HIF-1α in renal cancer.Methods: The expression of PTEN and HIF-1α was examined by immunohistochemistry Streptavidin-Peroxidase method in 40 cases of para-carcinoma,10 cases of normal renal tissues and 80 cases of renal cell carcinoma.Results of PTEN and HIF-1α protein expression were compared with the clinical stage,pathological grade,lymphatic metastasis.Results: The relationship between the expression of PTEN and Robson staging showed negative rank correlation,whereas the relationship between the expression of HIF-1α and Robson staging showed positive correlation.The relationship between the expression of PTEN and that of HIF-1α showed negative correlation significantly(r=-0.419,P0.01).The positive expression of HIF-1α protein was 42.3% in the group with positive high expression of PTEN protein,in the contrary,it displayed 85.7% in the group with low expression of PTEN protein.Conclusion: PTEN and HIF-1α are closely related to clinical stage,pathological grade and lymp nodes metastasis.It clould be a marker of the development of tumor.
